Top 5 tourist attraction of Lisbon, Portugal

Based on my experience, here are the Top 5 places you SHOULD visit if you ever plan on going to Portugal.

Firstly, I’ll begin by saying that Lisbon, Portugal, is one of those countries where I can imagine myself living in. The city’s so beautiful with hidden gems to discover all around. A city with a traditional culture yet has a modern touch as well. Personally, I would say that 6 days are enough to see everything in Lisbon!

Here are the top 5 places I would recommend you guys to visit.

  1. Belem Tower & Monument to the Discoveries

Also known as the most iconic building in Lisbon, the Belem Tower is a place that shouldn’t be missed! The pictures do injustice. Not to forget the beautiful view of the river and the panoramic sights. This place is incredibly surreal, so make sure to add this place to your agenda. Whether your trip is short or long, it’s a must! The Monument to the Discoveries is right next to the Belem, so make sure to take a look, it is absolutely stunning!

  1. Jerónimos Monastery

If you’re near Belem town, then make a trip to this famous Monastery which is ONLY 20 mins away from the Belem tower; with honesty, I was really IMPRESSED by the architecture of both exterior and the interior and their absolute beautiful garden! Not to mention, you have the chance to see Vasco Da Gama’s tomb; if you don’t know, he was a Portuguese explorer.

  1. Alfama

Fun fact, this place is the oldest district in Lisbon and a great place for those who are history lovers or enjoy exploring places on foot. Every corner has something interesting to look at, and there are great restaurants and shops in this area.

  1. Baixa & Rossio (downtown of Lisbon)

Their downtown is so huge that getting lost is the best way to explore the main center. Oh and let me just tell you, the downtown of Lisbon has some breathtaking scenery. And don’t be shy to ask for help because the people are nice and helpful to guide you. A few places thar I would recommend visiting while you’re in the centre is to see the world’s oldest bookstore, Praca do Commercio, & Rossio.

QUICK NOTE:The easiest way to travel through Lisbon is through their train system! VivaViagem card is best to use when traveling by train or bus. I would strongly recommend you to use the public transit.
  1. Sintra National Palace & Cabo Da Roca

This palace is also known as a fairytale palace and should not be a missed. It is worth to see the beautiful architecture. The only problem might be getting there. I would strongly recommend booking this place through a travel company such as the “yellow bus”. There is also a red bus known for a hop on and hop off the bus.

All in all, my trip to Lisbon was one of those trips I will never forget and definitely reconsider visiting this city again!

If you ever plan a trip to Europe, make sure to visit this city. It has hidden gems. Every time I went out, I had discovered something new. Who knows what else I missed?
